With turning movements already congested, and increased traffic at Prescott Regional Airport expected to ramp up in the area, improvements are being eyed for the interchange at highways 89 and 89A.
Although a study still needs to be done and the funding acquired, a project to improve the flow at the highway interchange elicited support from members of the Central Yavapai Metropolitan Planning Organization (CYMPO) this week.
Meeting digitally because of the COVID-19 pandemic, CYMPO’s executive board agreed on Wednesday, March 17, that the 89/89A interchange should be among the priorities in line for possible state funding.
Vincent Gallegos, a former CYMPO staffer who was recently chosen to fill the administrator post vacated by previous Administrator Chris Bridges, explained that the highway interchange currently becomes clogged with traffic at busy times.
